Optimising OR Planning and Instrument Traceability at AZ Alma Hospital

Challenge:

AZ Alma Hospital faced challenges in material traceability, OR scheduling, and instrument loss within their operating rooms. Struggling with lost or misplaced instruments, excessive materials in trays, and the wrong items in the wrong trays, they needed a comprehensive solution to streamline operations and improve cost efficiency in order to reduce costly re-sterilization (70€/tray).

Solution:

XLine has improved OR planning, enabling more surgeries in the same time frame. It also tracks pre-op consultations and anaesthesia reviews, reducing late cancellations. XLine has led to cost savings through fewer instruments per tray, less lost equipment, and the reduced need for re-sterilisation.

Results:

  • Enhanced material flow and traceability between OR & CSA

  • Significant cost savings by preventing instrument loss

  • Optimised OR planning, reducing inefficiencies and delays

  • Streamlined patient journey, improving experiences and costs

Testimonial:

“UDI (unique identification code per instrument) ensures the correct material flows between OR & CSA. It saves us a lot of time and money! Due to the loss of material/instruments in the operating room, we were looking for a way to know whether the material/instrument was in the set before the procedure. By using the data matrix and tracing, we have a clear picture. We can now also link the trays to the procedure and see which items need to be resterilised urgently or not. Thanks to XLine, we can optimally maintain our OR planning and the cost per procedure. The applications we currently use are ideal for us. We can no longer live without them. The implementation went very smoothly. Aexis Medical employees know their application inside and out and are always willing to discuss and adjust the software.”
